Cable TV providers concern with Project Canvas

A recent report from popular home telecommunications website Digital Choices reveals that as more United Kingdom broadband customers are falling into the habit of watching their favorite programmes on demand on their laptop or desktop computer, a reverse viewing of digital TV is occuring through Project Canvas. The BBC Trust has recently announced approval of development of a system allowing Internet TV content to be viewed directly through the television. Project Canvas is in some ways similar to the now obsolete Microsoft idea of WebTV which began and for the most part ended in the late 1990s. As just stated this is in direct contrast to the current trend of watching one’s favored television programs on the computer through their broadband connection. While more mainstream telecommunications companies such as BT are in favor of Project Canvas. Cable TV providers, SKY and Virgin Media oppose the government involvement in their medium. A realistic and honest approach to the entire situation leads us to believe that in a very short while television, due to special set top boxes such as the Project Canvas box, television and computer broadband will continue to merge until they are one and the same entity. No doubt, this is reinforced by current TV packages that offer bargain rates when combined with broadband and other home communication services.
